2024 January 13: Special Meeting regarding the Zoning Alignment Project
All UMNA meetings are open to the public. General meetings provide information & encourage discussion. Business/Annual meetings include decision-making. Only UMNA members may vote.
A large group of neighbors came out on a cold winter afternoon to talk about zoning and help shape the future of their neighborhood.
Duane Basch from Rosedale Street presents on building height allowances under the proposed new zoning code.
Jeanne Weber from Alliance Avenue presents on parking related matters under the proposed new zoning code.
Neighbors shared their views on a range of issues. A rich and respectful discussion resulted.
Special Meeting Background
This meeting is dedicated to reviewing & discussing the potential implications of impending changes to the Zoning Code proposed by the City of Rochester specifically impacting the Upper Monroe neighborhood area.
Which zoning districts will change in Upper Monroe? Answer: ALL of them.
How will YOUR property be zoned under the new rules?
Should the Hillside Children’s Center property be rezoned as “High Density Residential”?
Can Hillside be redeveloped without community input?
Should new zoning rules encourage taller buildings than current code allows?
Should new zoning rules encourage more units to be added to current buildings/homes?
What about the parking requirements?
Districts where short term rentals ("Airbnb" type units, bed & breakfasts, etc.) will be allowed.
Would the historic character of Upper Monroe be affected by new zoning rules?
Discussion
Attendees will help determine if UMNA should submit any comments or suggestions on the draft zoning plan to the City of Rochester before the deadline ends on January 31, 2024.
UMNA strongly recommends attendees review the first 20 minutes or so of this video presentation below BEFORE the meeting.
