The UMNA multi-year Monroe Avenue revitalization effort is comprised of seven goals. The goals are expressed with aspirational language; language that describes the future we want to see.
The community on and around Monroe Avenue supports a safe and compassionate environment.
1. Pedestrians & cyclists feel comfortable navigating along and across Monroe Avenue
Action beginning in 2024
The stripped crosswalk between Werner Park & Culver Road is enhanced with better signage and a pedestrian island
Time frame: Beginning in the spring of 2024 and completed by the fall of 2025.
UPDATE: In May, 2024 UMNA and area residents participated at a public meeting to hear details for this improvement and provide commentary to the City of Rochester.
3. The economically disadvantaged and unhoused who are present on and near Monroe Avenue are engaged and supported with compassion by professional organizations best equipped to do so.
Action beginning in 2024
UMNA invites and supports partnerships with local non-profits, government agencies and the Rochester Police Department to reach out to the economically disadvantaged and unhoused on and near Monroe Avenue with the intent of providing housing and other services as appropriate to the individual circumstances of those in need.
Time frame: This effort will commence immediately and the efforts will be ongoing
