Program Background & Description

In March of 2025 at the UMNA Annual Meeting the UMNA leadership team announced a new program designed to do a better job of catching all the bits of litter before they accumulate on Monroe Avenue: Adopt-A-Block.

Adopt-A-Block activates neighbors on/near every street that crosses Monroe Avenue. Each person periodically walks down to the corner and picks up the stray bits of litter along their ONE BLOCK section of Monroe Avenue. While theyโ€™re out they can keep an eye on any larger items or overflowing city trash bins and then call them in to 311. Simple & effective!

Each person will have an official "GloMonroe Grabber" and a "GloMonroe Bucket".

This is an excellent way to participate in the success of our neighborhood in a manageable way, at your own pace and on your own schedule. Itโ€™s also an ideal way for responsible teens to make a difference.

Adopt-A-Block has been picked up by the Monroe Avenue Revitalization Coalition (MARC) and is being reproduced by every neighborhood group from one end of Monroe Avenue to the other. Weโ€™re working as one big team to lift up Monroe Avenue!
