π£οΈMonroe Avenue Revitalization Coalition (MARC)
The Monroe Avenue Revitalization Coalition plays a critical role in UMNA's multi-year plan to revitalize our section of Monroe Avenue through a coordinated effort and a mutual support network.
MARC Mission Statement
"A coalition of residents, merchants, property owners, and community partners dedicated to revitalizing Monroe Ave through a holistic approach that will make the avenue a vibrant place to eat, live, play, and shop.β
Background
In 2023 several neighborhood association leaders representing groups located in proximity to Monroe Avenue met informally to talk about issues of concern and opportunities for improvement on Monroe Avenue. After a few discussions the group felt it needed support so they invited Mike Evans from the South East Area Coalition (SEAC) to engage with the group and help guide development of the group's efforts.
Over the same period of time the Monroe Avenue Merchants Association (MAMA), led by Elyssa Rossi, was re-emerging as a force to improve Monroe Avenue. Mike Evans from SEAC, who also serves on the MAMA board of directors, helped facilitate coordinated action.
MARC was formed in 2023 out of a common interest among merchants and neighbors to work together to reboot Monroe Avenue. Early in 2024 MARC adopted it's name and a mission statement.
Constituent members of MARC typically meet every other week on Tuesday afternoons at 3:00 PM at the SEAC Tool Library location on University Avenue to organize their efforts and plan initiatives to advance their goals.
Member Organizations
Other organizations (including individual businesses and non-profit entities) participate in MARC activities on an ad hoc basis. Most notably, Highland Planning is currently working with MARC.
MARC has initiated relationships with elected representatives at the local and state level.
