Volunteer Involvement

This page invites residents of the Upper Monroe neighborhood to become involved in matters related to public safety.

The Police Citizen Interaction Committee (PCIC) are monthly meetings, or in the case of the Rochester Police Chief's PCIC, bi-monthly meetings. Each Section's police Captain convenes the meetings, attended by Section staff and representatives from various neighborhoods groups within the Section.

Topics of discussion may include crime patterns, quality of life issues, environmental concerns, problem locations and crime statistics. Meetings are intended to be interactive, where everyone is encouraged to participate in an open dialogue. In the case of the Chief’s PCIC, the format is similar and representatives from various neighborhood groups throughout the city are invited.

Information on Departmental projects are introduced or updated with the expectation that attending neighborhood group members will take the information back to their respective organizations.

The Goodman Section PCIC for Sector 6/7 (Upper Monroe area) is held the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. by Zoom. Please contact the SE-NSC office at 428-7640 to get the Zoom link.

The Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association is in the process of organizing a PAC-TAC team. The Rochester Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy (C.P.A.) is a 10-week program held once a year* with an average class of 20-25 attendees. This year, we are encouraging community members and business owners to apply for the 32nd Academy. Academy classes take place over 10 consecutive Wednesday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., beginning October 9th, 2024, and concluding on December 11, 2024.

The C.P.A. was established by the Rochester Police Department (RPD) in 1992 with the objective of advancing our collaborative partnership between the Police and community we “Serve with Pride,” and develop solutions to problems while increasing public trust.

The C.P.A. provides a broad-based look at the policies, procedures and operations of the RPD. At its conclusion, attendees will be more familiar with the role of law enforcement in City neighborhoods, along with experiencing training currently provided to Rochester police officers. Attendees will have opportunities to offer comments and suggestions on police procedures and the recruit academy curriculum.

"National Night Out" is a community policing awareness-raising event in the United States, held the first Tuesday of every August.

The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

The events are typically organized by neighborhdood groups, nonprofit organizations, companies, and police departments. These events can be as simple as backyard cookouts or as complex as full-blown festivals.
