The recently formed Monroe Avenue Revitalization Coalition (MARC) launched its first major effort to engage residents, visitors, businesses and the community at large to understand the needs and hoped-for future of Monroe Avenue.
2025 January 28: Beautification & Livability | MARC ACTION TEAM
2025 February 3: Economic Development | MARC ACTION TEAM

Another sizable contingent of neighbors from the Monroe Avenue corridor and many other areas of Rochester gathered at The Lutheran Church Of The Incarnate Word on December 2nd.
This time each participant was asked to join one of three groups: Beautification and Neighborhood Quality of Life; Crime and Public Safety; and Economic Development. Each sub-group was asked to generate more ideas and discuss them. As a result of this concerted effort more than 100 ideas were efficiently reviewed.
There are two overarching principles at work that drive this effort: grassroots participation & positive efforts to move the community forward.
In the weeks to come the Monroe Avenue Revitalization Coalition (MARC) steering committee will sift through the results and prepare for more work to be done by the community. MARC anticipates each of the three groups will meet separately by the end of January, 2025 to flesh out the next steps.

It was standing-room-only on October 29th in the big meeting room of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word at the community meeting to review a recent survey on the future of Monroe Avenue. Over 1,000 respondents participated in the survey over the summer. Neighbors and business owners spoke passionately on a range of topics citing current concerns and hopes for the future.

Following the presentation representatives of the Monroe Avenue Revitalization Coalition (MARC) transitioned into facilitation mode and invited comments as well as written submissions from attendees. Members of MARC took extensive notes and collected all the written input.
A number of elected officials and their staff members were in the room. Representatives from the Mayor’s office and the Rochester Police Department were also present. The meeting was widely covered in local media.
All interested individuals are invited to a follow-up work group-style meeting scheduled for Monday, December 2nd at 7:00 pm at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word on the southwest corner of East Avenue and South Goodman Street. Small groupings of volunteers will review and digest all the information gathered to date and begin to develop an action plan.
Launch survey and generate community awareness and excitement about the effort at the 2024 June 20: Monroe Avenue Community Input Launch Party.
