In 2024 neighbors identified the removal of invasive species as goal for the Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association. Jeanne Weber has organized teams of volunteers to help on Pinnacle Hill and educate the community. These teams have been working with guidance from Jeanne and master gardener, Steve "Murph" Murphy.
Invasive species not only find their way across continents and over national boundaries they also travel between private yards and public greenspaces by way of natural processes like wind or rain as well as on the bottoms of shoes and when plants are exchanged.
Invasive creatures like the Spotted Lantern Fly and the Asian Jumping Worm can be found on Pinnacle Hill and in nearby private yards. Although volunteers groups aren't well equipped to eradicate invasive pests we can help educate our community in ways to identify them as well as reduce their impacts and means of transmission.
Programs are in the planning stages. Please check back here or subscribe to our e-newsletter for updates at Newsletters.
