Should UMNA endorse launching a study to examine the replacement of RGE with a public utility?

This page will follow the Upper Monroe neighborhood's discussions around endorsing the effort to study the impacts of a conversion from RG&E to a public utility company.

Background

This topic was covered at the UMNA summer general meeting on June 22, 2025. Meeting attendees got a good background behind the push for a public utility in our area. RGE's past performance was discussed along with how a private utility company compares to a public utility. In addition, the panel described examples from other communities that have already adopted a public utility. Finally, the group heard where the effort currently stands and what comes next in the process.

An informal assessment at the meeting indicated those present supported implementation of the study. The UMNA leadership team will research, process & discuss the issue and then decide whether or not UMNA will officially endorse undertaking the study.
